Sinus Headache
If you have recently had or still have the flu or a cold, you could also experience the effects of a sinus headache, caused by the blood vessels in the sinus area constricting. The most uncomfortable symptom of a sinus headache is the relentless pressure around your nose, forehead and under the eyes.
So what can we do to help alleviate these symptoms? Over the counter medications? They might prove to help with a little relief from sinus headaches, but they also have an abundance of side effects. Believe it or not, one noticeable side effect for an over the counter medicine was... 'Headache'. I kid you not. Also, when taking the same medication for any length of time, your body becomes more and more used to them, causing a decrease in their efficiency. So ultimately, you've got your headache or nausea or whatever the side effects are for that particular medicine, and no relief from your sinus headache.
With the growth in natural remedies and alternative solutions to help relieve symptoms, homeopathic healing is able to provide some pain relief for those who suffer from sinus headaches in the form of peppermint oil. Now, the great thing about this is the fact that peppermint oil acts the complete opposite to over the counter medicines. Where their effectiveness at alleviating pain reduces the more you use them, peppermint oil actually becomes MORE effective the more it is used.
How can you get peppermint oil and what do you have to do with it to help you relieve the pain of a sinus headache? Available as a fresh herb, you can make a peppermint tea by crushing the herb, pouring boiling water over it and allowing the herb to soak in that water for about 5 - 10 minutes. Then drink the tea slowly, deeply breathing in the steam.
If you haven't got access to fresh peppermint, then you can use the peppermint oil instead. Unlike the fresh peppermint, you don't need to prepare a tea. Instead, you prepare a steam facial with it or dilute in warm water, and then, using your fingers, gently massage it into your temples (the hollows on the side of your head), your forehead, just under your ears and the back of your neck at the base of the skull. Repeat this process 2 - 3 times a day (up to a maximum of 5 times) until your cold or flu goes and your sinus headache no longer presents a problem.
